Cistercian Monastery of Trasobares Monument · Trasobares, Aranda, Zaragoza The Royal Monastery of Santa María de la Piedad de Trasobares, in the Aranda region (Zaragoza), was a female Cistercian convent founded in 1168 as a daughter house of Tulebras, under the supervision of Veruela; King Alfonso II granted it royal privileges in 1188. During the crisis of the Compromise of Caspe (1412), the convent supported the rebellion of the Count of Urgel and suffered destruction in the civil war that followed. The disentailment led to its closure in 1835, when the community fell below the twelve nuns required: the abbess moved to Santa Lucía and the rest were distributed among Zaidía, Calatravas, Tulebras and Casbas. Today the church of the Assumption and a 16th-century cloister façade survive, which, together with the wall and the entrance arch, structure the village.
