Historic Ensemble of Cantavieja Monument · Cantavieja, Maestrazgo, Teruel Historic centre of Cantavieja, capital of the Maestrazgo, declared a historic-artistic site in 1981. It is arranged around the arcaded square dedicated to Cristo Rey, with the parish church of la Asunción, an ashlar Baroque temple with three naves and an octagonal tower topped by a pyramid, and the Town Hall, the former Casa de la Comunidad. It preserves stretches of medieval wall, damaged in the Carlist Wars, and a 19th-century circular tower on medieval foundations. The complex has its origin in the Templar commandery founded in 1197 by Miguel de Luna; once the order was dissolved, in 1317 it passed to that of San Juan de Jerusalén (Hospitallers), which came to control Mirambel, La Iglesuela del Cid and Tronchón as well. In 2014 Cantavieja was included among Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España. Photo: Juan Emilio Prades Bel (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Cantavieja
