Spring of Cella Nature · Villafranca del Campo, Jiloca, Teruel Source of the river Jiloca, formed by a large elliptical artesian well located in the Teruel town of Cella, with a perimeter of 130 metres and a depth of between 9 and 11.5 metres, from which an average flow of about 3,500 litres per second gushes. Built in the 12th century, it was ornamented between 1729 and 1731 by the engineering captain Domingo Ferrari, and is surrounded by an ashlar parapet, with a hermitage dedicated to Saint Clement next to the water outlet. Three irrigation channels run from the spring, watering seven villages, including Villafranca del Campo. During the 18th century the stretch between Cella and Monreal del Campo was channelled, after the draining of the Cañizar lagoon of Villarquemado. It has been listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1983.
