Vero Canyon in Colungo Nature · Colungo, Somontano de Barbastro, Huesca The canyon of the Vero river as it passes through Colungo, in the Somontano de Barbastro, forms part of the Parque Cultural del Río Vero, which brings together nine municipalities around the valley. Its walls open into shelters with prehistoric rock paintings, in which the Neolithic schematic style predominates, with 85%, followed by the Mesolithic Levantine style, with 14%, and barely 1% of Upper Palaeolithic art. These paintings form part of the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998. The Centro de Arte Rupestre del Río Vero, in Colungo, organises guided visits to some of these shelters. Photo: Rowanwindwhistler (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Colungo
