Roda de Isábena Curiosity · Isábena, La Ribagorza, Huesca Roda de Isábena, the main settlement of the municipality of Isábena, listed among Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España since 2019, rises on a promontory overlooking the valley of the Isábena river and preserves a walled medieval complex with the cathedral of San Vicente, the fortified palace of the Prior and the Plaza Mayor. In the 10th century it was capital of the county of Ribagorza and an episcopal see: the first cathedral, Romanesque, was consecrated in 956 and destroyed in a raid in 1006; the second, after the town was recovered, was consecrated in 1030. The bishopric, with fifteen bishops over 193 years, was extinguished in 1149 when the see was moved to Lérida. The cathedral, which preserved the oldest known copy of the Chronicle of Alfonso III, makes Roda the smallest town in Spain with a cathedral church.
