Argavieso Village · Argavieso, Hoya de Huesca, Huesca Argavieso is a municipality in the Hoya de Huesca documented from 4 December 1097, when Fortún de Valle is cited as tenant. It has 109 inhabitants; the oldest houses in its town centre date from the 17th century. Its castle-palace, originating in the 10th century and reconquered in the late 11th by Pedro I of Aragon, belonged first to Fortún del Valle and later passed to the Augustinians of Montearagón and to the Order of San Juan de Jerusalén, until reaching in the 15th century the Gurrea de Argavieso branch; remodelled in the 16th century with a Renaissance courtyard, it is today in progressive ruin and is listed on Hispania Nostra's Red List. It celebrates its festivals on 8 September, in honour of the Natividad de la Virgen, also the patroness of its parish church, from the 18th-19th centuries.
