Valencina de la Concepción, capital del Cobre Historical milestone · Valencina de la Concepción, Comarca Metropolitana de Sevilla, Seville The district of Valencina, together with that of Castilleja de Guzmán, holds one of the largest known Copper Age settlements in Europe (around 3000 BC), with dozens of megalithic structures. The municipality, with 8,050 inhabitants (2025) and at 153 m altitude, was called Valencina del Alcor until 1948, when it adopted its current name in memory of the fact that, on 8 December 1854, when the dogma of the Immaculate Conception was proclaimed, the friar Manuel Fernández López (of the monastery of Loreto, in neighboring Espartinas) rang its bells, for which it is considered the first town in the world to celebrate the dogma's official proclamation.
