Salteras y la heroína de la Guerra de la Independencia Historical milestone · Salteras, Comarca Metropolitana de Sevilla, Seville Image of Salteras, not of the place itself. During the Peninsular War, Francisca Pérez-Cerpa of Salteras armed and outfitted three of her seven children, selling all her possessions, including her cow, to pay for their enlistment. The Cortes of Cádiz granted her a lifetime pension and the honorary rank of colonel, which she held until her death in 1815. Salteras, known in Roman times as Paesula, received the title of villa from Ferdinand III after the Reconquista; in 1594 it had 355 households (tax-paying family units) subject to taxation.
