Municipality of 6,965 inhabitants (2025) and just 4.70 km², at 156 m altitude and 15 km from Seville. From a Roman villa turned Arab hamlet, it was granted to the Order of Santiago in 1253; in 1537 Jorge de Portugal bought the town for 9.2 million maravedís, and his descendants obtained the title of marquises in 1629.
