In Roman times a settlement existed on the site with mosaics, tombs and pottery from the 1st to 2nd centuries. In the Islamic period it was the hamlet of Albeçameit, affected by Viking raids in the 9th century, and it was incorporated into the Texada valley after the Christian conquest in the mid-13th century.
