Historical milestone
The municipality, long linked to the council of Aracena and connected in modern times to the mining activity of the Rio Tinto Company Limited, was simply called 'La Granada' until 1916, when a reform of Spanish municipal naming added the current surname 'Río-Tinto' to distinguish it from other towns of the same name.
