Real de la Almadraba de El Rompido Historical milestone · Cartaya, Costa Occidental, Huelva Image of Cartaya, not of the place itself. Industrial tuna-fishing complex active between 1929 and 1963 in what is now the Marismas del Río Piedras Nature Reserve, next to El Rompido, which housed some 900 people during the fishing season. The Casa del Capitán, with its square tower, is preserved. The parish church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen de El Rompido (1956) was built with bricks left over from the almadraba (tuna trap) complex.
