Former Franciscan convent founded next to Ayamonte in 1417 (with 1527 given as the official founding date) by Leonor de Manrique y Castro, widow of the lord of Ayamonte. From 1578 it held the relic of the Holy Shroud of Christ. The complex was badly damaged by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and was abandoned after the Mendizábal disentailment of 1835; today only the church survives, with a Baroque altarpiece by the Medinilla brothers. It was declared a Monumento Histórico-Artístico by decree of 3 June 1931.
