De la alquería de Montarún a Gobernador Historical milestone · Gobernador, Los Montes, Granada Image of Gobernador, not of the place itself. During the Arab occupation, present-day Gobernador was the hamlet known as Montarún. After the Reconquest and the expulsion of the Moriscos, the place was repopulated with settlers from northern Spain and took its current name in honor of Don Francisco de Molina, the governor to whom the hamlet was assigned.
