In the year 740 Qaysi Arab settlers arrived in La Malahá with the Syrian troops of general Balj, who created a complex system of irrigation and salt exploitation; in 1489 the Catholic Monarchs granted the exploitation of the salt pans to Muhammad XIII 'El Zagal'.
