Bubión, the administrative centre of the Taha de Poqueira since the 13th century, was the epicentre of the morisco revolt led by Abén Humeya against Felipe II, which began on 24 December 1568; after the expulsion of the moriscos in 1609 it was resettled with colonists from Galicia, León, Asturias and Castile.
