Cervantes en Castro del Río Historical milestone · Castro del Río, Guadajoz-Campiña Este, Córdoba Image of Castro del Río, not of the place itself. Miguel de Cervantes arrived in Castro del Río in 1587 as a royal supply commissioner. In 1592 he was briefly imprisoned, accused of selling wheat irregularly: it was his first imprisonment on Spanish soil, and some scholars see in the episode a seed of Don Quixote. The town is part of the Network of Cervantine Cities; the Academia Cervantina was founded there in 2024. 1592 (encarcelamiento); 2024 (fundación de la Academia Cervantina) Photo: CFA1877 (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Castro del Río
