Village
Jimena de la Frontera is a town of 6,719 inhabitants (2025) in the Campo de Gibraltar, in Cádiz, with three settlements: Jimena de la Frontera, the Estación de Jimena and San Pablo de Buceite. Its municipal area, between the Bay of Algeciras and the Serranía de Ronda, is included in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, one of the largest Mediterranean forests in southern Europe, with cork oaks, Portuguese oaks, wild olives, strawberry trees and oleanders. It is watered by the Guadarranque river, which rises within its boundaries, as well as the Guadiaro and Hozgarganta. It was conquered by Pedro García de Herrera on 11 March 1431, under John II of Castile, although the definitive conquest did not come until 1456. Alfonso XII granted it city status in 1879, and its historic centre was declared a historic-artistic site in 1983.
