Parque Natural de Los Alcornocales en Algeciras Nature · Algeciras, Campo de Gibraltar, Cádiz Image of Algeciras, not of the place itself. The Los Alcornocales Natural Park, declared by the Parliament of Andalusia in 1989, extends in a south-north band from the coast of Tarifa, on the Strait of Gibraltar itself, to the inland mountains, spread across eighteen municipalities in the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga, including Algeciras. At 167,767 hectares it is one of the most extensive natural parks in Spain. It is covered almost entirely by native Mediterranean forest, used for forestry, livestock, hunting and gathering, and is notable above all for its cork production. The municipality of Algeciras includes part of this park and of the Strait Natural Park, which together make up close to half of its municipal area.
