Batalla de Chiclana Historical milestone · Chiclana de la Frontera, Bahía de Cádiz, Cádiz On 5 March 1811, during the Peninsular War, the Battle of Chiclana was fought on the Puerco hill, known to the British and French as Barrosa, with more than 2,000 combined casualties. The numerically superior Hispano-Anglo-Portuguese allied troops defeated two French divisions under the command of Marshal Victor as they attempted to lift the siege of Cádiz from the rear. The British division of Sir Thomas Graham withstood the attack on two fronts despite the lack of Spanish support, but the tactical victory barely altered the course of the siege, which the French resumed and maintained until 24 August 1812. 5 de marzo de 1811 Photo: Zarateman (CC0) What to see and do in Chiclana de la Frontera
